The word of the Lord: Thanks be to God.
Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. Psalm 127:1

a seventh year.
Tonight I  met with a guy that I had kissed my junior year of high school, and unbeknown to me, that was his first kiss. He was also a guy I met through a friend when I visited her in Nashville. Tonight we revealed the painful, but awkward moments that had happened between us, but also could actually connect on levels that I never thought a simple acquaintance could.  We were strangers that shared...

freedom.
This poem has been with me for a long time and remains. The Peace of Wild Things When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax...

Where we live.
Now the stone house on the lake front is finished and the workmen are beginning the fence. The palings are made of iron bars with steel points that can stab the life out of any man who falls on them. As a fence, it is a masterpiece, and will shut off the rabble and all vagabonds and hungry men and all wandering children looking for a place to play. Passing through the bars and over the steel...

for two friends in [love].
Here I love you: Pablo Here I love you. Here I love you and the horizon hides you in vain. I love you still among these cold things. Sometimes my kisses go on those heavy vessels that cross the sea towards no arrival. I see myself forgotten like those old anchors.

An imported date. →
This is a wine collection I have visited and wanted to share. If you are looking for something to spice up your life, how bold is it to order wine? I know budgets are tight, but instead of going somewhere, spend money ordering wine and then have a great home date, or night by yourself. It’s like getting a massage, anyway— all that to say, this is my favorite wine/winery. Hope you check...

You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body        love what it loves. Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the...

Elegy: The Boy
The instant we learned how not to cry suggested the great Leonard Michaels somebody else began growing inside us, a lengthening shade, nameless mourner: the one to whom from that point on we’d delegate all pain, but I have woken up from him. Traveling, each one alone, toward the beginning’s finister Finisterre — toward the before it all happened, the Reunion; the...

epiphany
Too often we sell ourselves to the things that feed our bank accounts, whilst forgetting the things that leave us looking into the invisible air and cracking a weathered smile.

Tete Dune Femme Lisant: Pablo Picasso 19-20 century I am always attracted to picasso because his works are very philosophical: he seems to be painting the true complexity of the human by the geometrical shapes and chaotic rhythm on his canvas. His muse must have been something profound and beautiful. Getting married reminds me of this painting: change and chaos, but odd beauty.

I second Bekah on her post. I too, have hit a brick wall. I blogged earlier about the perils of age and the atrocious reality that growing older brings: You turn into cliche’s like: Work hard, play hard: Well, I am taking Calvin and Hobbes’ advice here and saying a choice word (They quoted saying that life isn’t beautiful unless you know swearwords) so, I am saying that is ...

homage to my hips
these hips are big hips. they need space to move around in. they don’t fit into little petty places. these hips are free hips. they don’t like to be held back. these hips have never been enslaved, they go where they want to go they do what they want to do. these hips are mighty hips. these hips are magic hips. i have known them to put a spell on a man and spin him like a top Lucille...

This lyric from Arcade Fire successfully illustrates many emotions that have been surfacing from past weeks. It is quite odd to be honest, I find myself becoming nostalgic… Over the past few weeks, circumstances (both controlled and spontaneous) have been prodding me to realize that I am no longer eighteen. My sister once told me that the transition from eighteen to twenty-one would be...
